Very easy to install plan taking big trip in a few months can’t wait to see how they handle. Update to follow.

Ok it’s been a year and I have to say this product is definitely worth the investment. After taking it on a month long journey from Oklahoma to California I noticed improved handling especially along winding narrow roads. The trailer tracked well and I noticed less jolting. I also noticed the body roll diminished when in high winds or being passed by bigger trucks. Great product definitely recommend if you do allot of long hauls.

@John This is great stuff John, thanks for sharing. This is exactly what the Sumo Springs are supposed to do, and I am glad to hear you are happy with the results.

by:

Only 4 stars since I have only used them on one RV trip so far. I installed these in conjunction with an equalizer upgrade (Morryde SRE 4000) on my 2019 Grand Design Reflection TT. For the one trip I have been on, I liked how these helped cushion the ride of the trailer. I would certainly buy them again.

by:

2020 Cyclone 3 axle toy hauler. Can definitely tell a big difference in how quick the trailer settles down over large bumps like bridge transitions. Things inside seem to travel better.

by:

My toy hauler when loaded maxes out the 2 8000# axels. These Sumo Springs stop the over travel of the suspension and stops the spring sag that these trailers are noted for. The ride is more under control and there is less effect on the contents.

by:

We have a Grand Design Reflection 5th wheel with the refridgerator on the rear wall, and we kept having issues with the fridge doors coming open during bumpy travel, so we installed the Sumo Springs based on a number of other reviews that indicated it would restrict the trailers bouncing. Total success, we have not had the doors open since the install, and generally feel less bouncing as we travel. The trailer also has less bounce when stationary, an added benefit.

No problems at all, everything I said in first review remains, the refrigerator doors stay closed, despite some very bumpy roads, and we travel about 6 month each year in 5th wheel!

@John We're happy to hear that, thank you for checking back in!

by:

We purchased these SumoSprings for our 2019 Heartland Fuel 250 knowing that they would not fit our leaf spring top plates, but I knew I could modify the mounting bracket to accommodate our RV. For anyone who has Dexter axles with shocks, you most likely have a 5-1/2” wide leaf spring top plate. If you are handy and have an acetylene torch or map gas you can simply heat and bend the inside bracket, drill a 1/2” hole and through bolt it to an existing hole in the top plate. I actually think this is a more secure install. Overall, it would be nice if there was an exact fit for our Rv, but it was an easy fix. Great product.

by:

Delivered on time and all the parts were there! They were easy to install and give the leaf springs the leaf springs the help they needed. Our camper has less felt recoil on bumps and pot holes which makes for an easier day traveling.

by:

Easy to install only a couple hours for both axles. A more stable ride and haven’t broke any leaf springs on these great American highways, by the way I installed them on a 38’ 5th wheel rv.

by:

Installed on 2022 Jayco NorthPoint 310RLTS. Took them on their maiden voyage east on 138, south on 15 and 215 into Santee Lakes, Ca. Appears they have mitigated some of the rebound caused by springs, however don't expect it to eliminate all. There was still at times significant "bouncing" when transitioning bridge gaps or wonderful LA / San Bernardino Freeways.

Having had Timbren springs on my last truck and really enjoying the support, wondering now if I should have gone with them?

Bottom line, they WORK, just less than I would of expected. But then again, my expectations might have been too high.

by:

etrailer provides quality products you can trust. Sumo springs made a big difference in the ride quality of my fifth wheel going down the road. It helped with chucking and takes some of the roughness out of the roads. Items in the cupboards are still a mess when we get to our destination, but less of a mess. Highly recommend!!

by:

Very easy to install. The rough and uneven road and ride on our fifth wheel is vastly improved.

Still working great.

by:

The SumoSprings work great made my trailer roll smoother down the road

by:

The springs do work I'm not sure how much they help. I take a trip across the USA every year. (10K miles) The roads are rough. I might be expecting too much, still have cabinet doors come open. I do feel they support the suspension.

by:

They were very easy to install and seem to provide additional stability on turns and over rough spots on the road. So far I would say they work as advertised. As usual etrailer is great to work with and shipping is fast.

by:

A must have for additional support for the leaf springs and makes the towing experience much smoother

by:

Installing the products went about as well as hoped. The hardest parts were keeping them on the desired location on the springs.

by:

I bought these believing I needed them for the leaf springs. I had set them aside so I could return them. Naturally, I forgot about them and a year later I contact the company and they tell me they won’t return them and suggest I sell them on social media. I have bought two leaf spring kits and due to my recent interactions I will never buy another set or recommend them to anyone. Very disappointed.

by:

Installation was very simple. I didn't need to relocate a gas line which made the job even easier. It took me longer to crawl under the trailer than it took to install them. I have not towed yet, but I'm confident they will make a huge improvement on the trip from Michigan to Texas.

by:

If you own a camper, and you are planning on towing it on the crappy roads in America, you need these springs to cushion the ride and protect your investment. Install is fairly simple and straight forward. Just take your time and don't rush it.

by:

So far so good. Easy install. Used trailer jacks to give me the 1/2-1” of lift required to install these. Definitely feel the difference in stability/lean when going around corners and hitting bumps. Will be putting a few thousand miles on this summer and these will provide some peace of mind knowing the suspension system isn’t taking as bad of a beating. A little pricey for rubber springs especially since I need four, but sometimes peace of mind comes at a price.

by:

Service was great and product delivered on time as promised

by:

They came scratched up and worn like they’ve already been used…

by:

Only used them for one trip
ended up
installing larger slipper spring set up

by:

I love my SumoSprings they work and they were easy to put on

by:

Couldn't believe the difference in the ride of the trailer. I would highly recommend this product

  • Spacing Required Between the Spring Plate and Trailer Bottom for the SumoSprings Trailer Springs
The SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs item # SS26MV require 5-5/16" - 6-1/2" of clearance. This is from the top of the spring plate to the bottom of your trailer. Since you are right at 5" you should be ok once you jack your trailer up and get the weight off of the springs. They are designed to be constantly engaged when you are using your trailer.

  • Comparing SumoSprings and Shocks for Trailers with Tandem 8K Axles
I really like the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs, part # SS33HR for underslung or part # SS26MV for overslung axles. The springs do a great job of adding stability to the trailer by absorbing road bumps more as well as reducing sway. A good example of this is when you get passed by a semi and a large gust of wind hits the trailer. This would normally cause the trailer to rock side to side creating sway but with the springs, they will compress when the trailer leans to one side which...

The number of leaves on a leaf spring is not the only determining factory in the amount of weight it can handle. The SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs typically install compressed so they do tend to provide more space between the frame and axle in most cases but not by much and this is not really the goal of the system.
